How it works
- 1Upload a photoA straight-on photo at eye level, neutral face, good light. Or take a selfie.
- 2We measure in your browser478 landmarks are mapped on your device and small head turns are corrected. The photo is never uploaded.

This face shape detector tells you whether your face is oval, round, square, oblong, heart, diamond or triangle. It measures face length and forehead, cheekbone and jaw width from a front-facing photo, then shows your two closest shapes with a percentage, because most faces sit between two shapes.
The 7 face shapes
Face shapes are a shorthand for three proportions: how long your face is compared with its width, how wide your jaw is compared with your cheekbones, and how wide your forehead is compared with your cheekbones. This detector uses seven shapes:
| Shape | Length vs width | Jaw and forehead |
|---|---|---|
| Oval | Longer than wide | Jaw a little narrower than the cheekbones, forehead slightly narrower; soft curves |
| Round | About as long as wide | Full cheeks, soft jaw angle |
| Square | About as long as wide | Jaw nearly as wide as the cheekbones, strong angles |
| Oblong | Clearly longer than wide | Forehead, cheekbones and jaw similar in width |
| Heart | Medium | Wide forehead, narrow jaw and chin |
| Diamond | Medium | Cheekbones widest; narrow forehead and jaw |
| Triangle | Medium | Jaw wider than the forehead |
What face shape do I have?
Upload a front-facing photo with your hair pulled back from your forehead and jawline. The detector:
- Maps 478 landmarks and corrects small head turns and tilts, which otherwise make the face look wider or longer.
- Measures face length (top of forehead to chin) against cheekbone width, jaw width against cheekbone width, and forehead width against cheekbone width.
- Scores how well those ratios match each of the seven shapes and shows your top two with a percentage, for example 64% oval, 36% round.
The two-shape result matters. Most real faces sit between shapes, which is why manual guides so often leave people unsure. Knowing you are "mostly oval, partly heart" is more useful than a forced single label. The measured widths are shown on your photo so you can see what the result is based on.
For a steadier answer, add one or two more photos — the measurements are averaged before the shape is chosen.
Why face shape tests give different answers
The most common complaint about face shape detectors is that they change their answer. Usually the photo changed. Tilting your head up shortens the face and pushes the result toward round or square; tilting it down lengthens it toward oblong. Standing close to a phone camera widens the middle of the face. Hair across the forehead or jaw hides exactly the edges being measured.
This detector corrects small head angles and always returns the same result for the same photo. Take your photo at eye level from arm's length, with hair back and a neutral face, and the answer should hold across photos.
Hairstyles and glasses for your face shape
Most people want their face shape to choose a haircut, glasses or a beard. The general rule is balance: add what your shape has less of.
- Oval — most styles and frames work; avoid anything that hides your face completely.
- Round — height on top, side parts and angular, rectangular frames add length and structure.
- Square — soft layers, textured fringes and round or oval frames soften strong angles.
- Oblong — width at the sides, fringes and deeper frames shorten the face visually; avoid a lot of height on top.
- Heart — volume around the jaw and chin-length cuts balance a wider forehead; bottom-heavy or rimless frames help.
- Diamond — fringes and fullness at the forehead and jaw; oval or cat-eye frames.
- Triangle — volume at the crown and temples; frames that are wider at the top.
The hairstyle finder takes this further with suggestions for your measured shape, and the jawline rating and golden ratio calculator break down the proportions behind it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my face shape?
Upload a front-facing photo with your hair off your forehead. The detector measures face length against width, jaw width against cheekbones, and forehead width against cheekbones, then shows your two closest shapes with a percentage, because most faces fall between two shapes.
Why did another face shape test give me a different result?
Manual guides and many apps change answer when you tilt your head up or step closer to the camera. We correct for head tilt and turn and use fixed rules, so the same photo always gives the same shape; a closer or wider-angle photo can still shift the ratios a little.
What can I do with my face shape?
People mostly use it to choose glasses, sunglasses, haircuts and beard styles. Knowing your individual proportions (jaw width, forehead width, face length) is often more useful than the label itself, and the result shows those too.
Can your face shape change?
Your bone structure stays largely the same in adulthood, but weight changes, ageing and muscle can shift the jaw and cheek widths enough to move you between neighbouring shapes, such as round and oval.
Is oval the best face shape?
Oval is often called the most balanced because most hairstyles and frames suit it, but no shape is better than another. Attractiveness depends far more on symmetry, proportions and features than on the outline.
Can ChatGPT identify my face shape?
A chatbot can describe a photo, but its answer can change with the wording of your question and it does not measure. A measurement tool like this one gives the same result for the same photo and shows the widths and lengths it used.
What is the most accurate face shape detector?
The most reliable ones measure your face rather than guess, correct for head tilt, and show the measurements behind the answer. This detector does all three and gives your top two shapes with percentages, since most faces sit between shapes.
Do you upload or store my photo?
No. Scoring and measurement run entirely in your browser: the face model downloads to your device and your photo never leaves it. Only the AI Analysis tools (such as age or color analysis) send a photo to our server, and they say so before you upload.
